After a disappointing start to the season, the Bills have rattled off three straight wins. The Jets were no match for Buffalo as they dominated in all three phases of play en route to their 24-10 victory on Sunday. Let’s take a look back at what we learned from Week 10 and see if there are any lessons that can be applied going forward this week against Arizona.
The “bills football” is a win that the Buffalo Bills needed. The team came out with an easy win over the Jets.
On Sunday, the Buffalo Bills defeated the New York Jets by a large margin. Following a defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars, it was a fantastic comeback triumph. The Bills controlled the game from beginning to end, winning 45-17. They were shooting from every angle and had complete control. Despite the fact that the Jets aren’t a strong team, the Bills were able to get back on track with this victory.
Following their poor offense against the Jaguars, Bills quarterback Josh Allen had a fantastic game.
Here are three key lessons from the Bills’ rout of the Jets in Week 10.
3. Stefon Diggs is settling into his new role.
Diggs is one of the league’s top receivers, but he struggled to get going early this season. Against the Jets, though, he had eight catches for 162 yards and a score. Allen had a lot of success tracking him downfield, particularly when he was covering him one-on-one.
Diggs’ excellent route-running skills allows him to get himself open with ease. He’s finally found his stride, and he’ll be a big part of the Bills’ offense for the remainder of the season.
2. They have a top-notch secondary school.
The Bills’ secondary has been underrated despite having one of the best in the league. Many people focus on Allen and Diggs’ star-studded offense, but the defense has been crucial to the team’s success this season.
The Bills recorded four interceptions and a forced fumble against the Jets, which helped them take control of the game right away. Micah Hyde recovered a fumble, while Levi Wallace, Taron Johnson, Jordan Poyer, and Tre’Davious White all had interceptions. With playmaking skills in the secondary, Allen and the offense will have more opportunity to score points. It will become a nightmare for offenses to go up against if they can consistently produce turnovers.
The Bills were unable to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game last season, allowing 38 points. The Bills have a decent chance of making it to the Super Bowl this year, thanks to their improved defense.
1. The Bills are still a playoff contender.
All eyes were on Sean McDermott’s squad to bounce back after their defeat to the Jaguars. Not only that, but the Bills totally controlled the game. They went out on the field with a goal in mind, demonstrating why they are still a viable competitor in the AFC.
Buffalo is currently the AFC’s second seed, behind only the Tennessee Titans. Allen and the Bills will have a tough road to make another deep playoff run, but they have the tools to do so. The offense will need to be more consistent and rely on the run game more. This has been a major flaw for them this season, but it got better against the Jets. They rushed for 139 yards and four touchdowns on 24 carries. The danger of a rushing assault will allow Allen to locate his targets in the passing game.
The Buffalo Bills will now host the Indianapolis Colts at home. The Indianapolis Colts are coming off a 23-17 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Every game for McDermott and company heading ahead will be crucial in their quest for the AFC’s top spot. They’ll have to beat the Titans, who have a two-game lead in the standings and control the tiebreaker since they beat them in their last meeting.
